Copper oxide wire form, containing 86% +/- 5% elemental copper.
Pharmplex copper oxide needles are a grey/black rod of copper oxide. Pharmplex copper oxide needles are made from high purity (99.9%) virgin electrical grade copper wire. The high purity electrical grade copper is extremely low in trace element contaminants, especially potentially toxic elements such as arsenic, cadmium and lead. The copper oxide needles are presented as a rod or wire form with a uniform average diameter and a length of 3mm to 4mm.
Pharmplex copper oxide needles (wire form) are used as a copper supplement for animals. The copper oxide needles are supplied to manufacturer's/packer's specifications to fill gelatine capsules or other solid dosage forms for oral administration to a range of ruminants including sheep and lambs, goats and kids, deer and fawns, cattle and calves, camels and alpacas. The copper oxide filled gelatine capsule dissolves in the rumen releasing the copper oxide needles that lodge in the folds of the reticulum and abomasum. The copper oxide needles then slowly dissolve to release copper that is absorbed by the animal from the intestinal tract. The absorbed copper is stored in the liver and released gradually over time into the circulation.
